Gujarat Fortunegiants had not been a part of the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League until season 5. In their first season, they had topped their Zone’s points table. They won the Qualifier 1 against Bengal Warriors and moved onto the Final match where they lost to Patna Pirates. Even in the following season, Gujarat Fortunegiants held the top spot of the Zonal Pro Kabaddi points table.
They defeated Bengaluru Bulls in the Qualifier 1 and defeated U.P.Yoddha in the Qualifier 2. The team again failed to win the title as they lost the Final match to Bengaluru Bulls. The Gujarat Fortunegiants team would be desperate to win the title this year as they had come very close to doing so but failed, in the previous two seasons.
