F1 Sprint Qualify Race 2024: Formula 1 is always looking for ways to enrich the viewer experience. It aims to make racing more intense and closer, and in order to do so, a new type of qualifying will be set in place for Saturdays. With F1’s sprint qualifying events, the top three finishers will receive points and start at the front of the grid.

Saturday’s will see a new F1 sprint race qualifying format as seen in the F2 championship. The top three finishers in Saturday’s Sprint Qualifying will get points – three for first, two for the second, and one for third. It also ensures that the fastest drivers on the field will start from pole position on Sunday.
The FIA sporting regulations provide significant improvements to ensure that all teams have a fair opportunity. The new rules will debut at Silverstone, Monza, and one other location yet identified in 2024.
How does F1’s Sprint Qualifying Work?
The Formula 1’s Sprint qualifying race will run for over 100km in 30 minutes, and Friday’s qualifying session will determine the order for the race. The F1’s sprint qualifying will determine Sunday’s order of a race.

F1 New Rules 2024: F1 Sprint Qualify Rules and Format
The F1 sprint qualifying race weekend format will be:
- Friday morning – 60-minute Free Practice 1
- Friday afternoon – Q1, Q2, Q3 sessions to order the starting grid for the sprint race qualifying
- Saturday morning – 60-minute Free Practice 2
- Saturday afternoon – 100km sprint race qualifying
- Sunday – Full Grand Prix race
New Tyre Regulations
In the tyre department, new rules will be applied as well. Teams choose the compound to use for Saturday’s practice session. One set for the sprint race teams chooses which compound they want to use. There are two sets of tyres left for the Grand Prix. The teams getting free choice on the tyre to start the race with.
At the start of Friday practice, the teams will be given three sets of wet tyres and four sets of intermediate tyres.
If there is rain during FP1 or qualifying, teams will be given an extra set of intermediates, but they must promptly return any used intermediates.
